Now let us cross over to America and find when Becketts landed on its shores. No doubt many of them came at various times, but our family ancestors landed in about 1725 at Philadelphia, PA, in the person of William Beckett and his wife Sarah (Jennings) Beckett. They were our great, great, great grandparents. They settled, lived and died on a small farm in Gloucester County, New Jersey, and this old ancestral farm is now the golf course of the town of Pitman, New Jersey.They had four sons: Josiah, Peter, Samuel and William. A son of William, our great grandfather Beckett, migrated west to the Ohio River country settling in Belmont County, OH, near the town of Bellair, OH, on the Ohio River
soon after Ohio became a state, and here he established a home and here, on the 24th day of December, 1815, our grandfather Beckett was born.I have been unable to learn the maiden name of our great grandmother Beckett, but do know that her given name was Rachel. |
